DJ Wayne releases ‘old school’ type rhythm
DJ Wayne has released his new Mesh Marina Rhythm, which has a heavy dancehall feel.
Released on May 24, the old school vibe of the rhythm pays homage to Barrington Levy's classic, Fuss Not Fight (Sweet Reggae Music).
"This riddim came about as an appreciative nod to those who made the music on which I was raised," the deejay explained. The rhythm features four tracks - No Problem by Busy Signal, Nuh Chattings by Jah Izrehl, Step Up In Life by Sugar Roy and the Fireball Crew, and Walk With Love by Randy Valentine.
"Busy Signal and Suga Roy and the Fireball Crew are artistes that we have worked with previously. Jah Izrehl is a new talent on the scene and Randy Valentine is an artiste with whom I've finally had the pleasure to collaborate on a project, the first of many to come," he said, speaking on the collaborations.
Ahead of its official release locally, the project has received tremendous feedback and support so far, with DJs in Greece, Australia and Kenya, just to name a few, reaching out and raving about it.
TRUE TO CULTURE
The title of the project, which refers to an article of clothing in Jamaica, stays true to Jamaican culture.
"In Jamaica, the mesh merino is as synonymous with the original dancehall as the Clarks shoes, the diamond socks and the Buckaz/Beaver/Kangol hats of the era," the deejay explained. "The riddim serves to continue the movement of Jamaican music and its people in musical harmony with the rest of the world."
DJ Wayne has kept busy over the years with a slew of rhythms such as Monte Carlo, Tropical, and Elastik.
This new project was just short of a year in the making, and DJ Wayne already has several new projects up his sleeve.
New releases featuring artistes such as Dre Island, Jah Izrehl and Sean Storm are expected.
The deejay has also hinted at a mega project that will be released prior to the aforementioned collaborations.
