Humble Lion hunt more success
AFTER going winless in their opening six games of the 2024/25 Jamaica Premier League, Humble Lion registered their first victory last week, 1-0 win over Molynes United. And, according to Donovan Duckie, head coach of the team, the unimpressive start was not concerning to him.
"Based on the hard work we've put in, the element of luck will certainly come after. We've prepared ourselves well, we had five draws and a defeat before we got our first win, but it wasn't bothering us that we hadn't won a game as yet. We have given up just a few goals and it's just for us to be more clinical in front of goal," he stated.
The Clarendon-based team will this week turn their attention to the 'Junglists', Arnett Gardens FC, and, according to Duckie, this team will provide a "stern test".
"We were happy to have gotten a tick in the win column and, hopefully, it will do a lot for the guys' confidence. We've prepared ourselves for Sunday as we know it's going to be a stern test against Arnett Gardens," he said.
"Teams that play in Concacaf know how to play at a high level but this is a game that we're looking forward to if we are harbouring any thoughts of going for the title," he stated.
Arnett Gardens FC were recently involved in the Concacaf Caribbean Club championships.
Humble Lion have scored four goals across their seven games, but the veteran coach believes being more clinical in front of goal will turn around their fortunes.
"We have to be more clinical because we've created a lot of chances. However, it's not an area of concern; sometimes you can get carried away and say let's open and take more risks and then start to concede a lot of goals. So you have to be patient," he suggested.
Duckie added that games of this magnitude tend to bring out the best in both teams and he's relishing his chances against them as competition of this nature only helps to develop the brand of football.
"It's always a difficult game. There's a rivalry and nothing has changed. This augurs well for our football and the competitiveness improves a lot," Duckie believes.
Meanwhile, in a rescheduled fixture on Thursday, Chapelton Maroons and Arnett Gardens played to a 1-1 draw at Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
