Anisa Dilworth murder case fast-tracked to High Court as accused remanded
The murder case of University of Technology (UTech) student Anisa Dilworth has taken a major turn, with the accused now being sent to the Home Circuit Court in Kingston to answer to serious charges including murder and kidnapping.
Twenty-nine-year-old in-Drive operator Jamar Grant, otherwise called 'Balla', was transferred from the St Catherine Parish Court after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) moved to fast-track the matter by filing a voluntary bill of indictment.
The move, which bypasses the usual preliminary hearing process, was upheld by Parish Judge Janelle Nelson-Gayle, who ordered that Grant be remanded pending his appearance before the High Court.
Grant, who lists addresses in Nine Miles, Bull Bay, St Andrew, and Sligoville, St Catherine, is facing charges of murder, kidnapping, and failing to comply with a production order.
Investigators had earlier obtained a court order compelling him to give access to his cell phones as part of the probe.
The case stems from the disturbing disappearance of 20-year-old Dilworth, a pharmacy student, who was last seen on May 7, 2025, when she reportedly entered a taxi.
Ten days later, in a grim discovery that shocked the nation, skeletal remains of a woman were found along a beach in Hellshire, Portmore.
DNA testing later confirmed that the remains were those of the missing student.
Grant was subsequently arrested and charged, and has remained in custody as the case continues to unfold.
The transfer to the Home Circuit Court signals that the matter is now moving into a more serious phase, as prosecutors prepare to lay out their case in the High Court.
