Tricky opener for Reggae 6

Saturday's Reggae 6 opener could be a tricky start to the afternoon, a maiden event for three-year-old fillies at seven and a half furlongs, a little short of June's 1000 Guineas, signalling late bloomers could be lurking in preparation for the season's first classic.

Anthony Nunes in-utero, IMMEASURABLE JOY, who he has been gradually stretching out in three races since she debuted at four furlongs straight last December, appears begging for ground.

Last time out at six furlongs, IMMEASURABLE JOY was chased off the lead by ROSETTA but held her place to the finish in division one of a fillies-only matchup, clocking 1:16.4 behind the winner.

Division two, won by 13-1 upsetter SIPPIN ON SUNSHINE, posting 1:17.1 to beat a charging KAYLYN MELODY, who returns blinkers replacing visor.

Having finished two-fifths better than KAYLYN MELODY, IMMEASURABLE JOY, who forced the pace before ROSETTA took over, seems the better horse on paper.

However, equipment changes are not to be discounted, especially among maidens whose connections could still be experimenting with blinkers, visors and figure-eighths for the first six races, a window during which handicappers do not tinker with maidens' rating numbers.

PRINCESS FIANIE also returns with an equipment change, the tongue strap removed, after the palate-flipping inhibitor was tried for her two previous races. Trainer Rudolph Hardial had galloped PRINCESS FIANIE in the figure eight for three consecutive mornings before she disappointed with a tongue strap fitted on race day, finishing fourth behind SIPPIN ON SUNSHINE, KAYLYN MELODY and VALLEY OF LOVE.

If there is a horse who appears to have benefitted from an equipment change, VALLEY OF LOVE could be the sleeper, awoken when a visor was fitted for her third-place run behind SIPPIN ON SUNSHINE and KAYLYN MELODY.

VALLEY OF LOVE made up seven and a half lengths inside the final two furlongs in the visor, suggesting she could be a threat from off the pace, especially with the headgear to make her sharper.
