'Lamphead' charged with shooting man in broad daylight
A man known by the alias 'Lamphead' is now facing a string of firearm-related charges after police say he ambushed a motorist and opened fire on him in broad daylight along Cricket Way, St Andrew.
Charged is 27-year-old Lemar Whyte of Rae Road, Kingston 11.
Whyte has been charged with Wounding with Intent, Possession of a Prohibited Weapon, Unauthorised Possession of Ammunition, and Using a Firearm to Commit a Felony.
Reports from the Hunts Bay Police are that about 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, a man was sitting inside his white Nissan AD Wagon along Cricket Way when Whyte allegedly approached the vehicle and opened gunfire.
The victim was shot during the attack before the gunman fled the area.
The injured man was rushed to hospital, where he was admitted in stable condition.
Following the shooting, detectives assigned to the St Andrew South Policing Division launched an intensive investigation into the incident.
Police say their probe eventually led to Whyte’s capture.
He was formally charged on Friday, May 29, following a question-and-answer session with investigators.
A court date is now being finalised for the accused.
