Is Taylor getting a raw deal? - Coach reveals reasons behind break-ups at Harbour View and Dunbeholden
Fabian Taylor's young coaching career has suffered two dents in the space of a few months.
The former national striker was shown the door at his boyhood club, Harbour View FC , after working tirelessly to stave off relegation last season after he took over from Ricardo 'Bibi' Gardner last December with the Stars of the East firmly at the bottom of the of the table in the Red Stripe Premier League.
And after working with Dunbeholden through the preseason, he was again told that 'His services were no longer needed'. This time, without the opportunity to display his coaching tactics for the St Catherine-based club fans.
Taylor, who honed his coaching skills at Harbour View, said that the management at Compound selected a new coach without informing him or even discussing how he performed in the four months he was fully in charge of the team.
Moving forward
"We at Harbour View usually have post- season assessment and none of that didn't happen this year," Taylor said. "I heard that they were keeping a series of meetings that I was not invited to and I guess after they decided on moving forward, they called me to a meeting and at the time I didn't have the means to attend that meeting."
Taylor tallied 22 points in the 19 games he was head coach for The Stars of the East and believes he could get back Harbour View to contending for titles again. And when he was not given the opportunity, he turned his attention to Dunbeholden but realised quickly that his boyhood club is paradise comparing to others in the league.
"When I get to (Dunbeholden) the club, we didn't even have balls to train with and I spoke to management. The field that we have been training on at Ferdie Neita Sports complex is not even marked, so it is difficult for the players to correctly carry out what we are trying to teach them," he said.
The final straw came last Monday when Taylor refused to administer his training session without water being available for the players to drink.
"When the players don't have any water to drink, they complain to me so I said that I wasn't going have any training session without water," he said.
According to Taylor, his refusal to have the training sessiong caused the management of the club to dismiss him.
"Later that evening, I got a text saying that my services were no longer needed," he said.
