Lowe’s future at IK Start not set in stone
Jamaican international Damion Lowe has been swept up in recent transfer rumuors as it was circulated that several European clubs have been raising an interest in securing the defender's signature, a credible source close to player told STAR Sports.
Lowe currently plays his football at European outfit IK Start in the second tier of football in Norway. The defender, who was a main starter in Jamaica's Gold Cup team that made it to the semi-finals of the recent competition, has been garnering attention from several European clubs, and with a year left on his contract, rumours of a move has surfaced.
Representatives of IK Start have come forward and confirmed the rumours of clubs making inquiries into the player's availability and have so far rejected all offers to date. The club hopes to keep the player on their roster as he has continued to prove to be a mainstay in their starting line-up.
The source close to Lowe has stated that so far, the player has not been approached by IK Start about the possibility of a contract extension and insists that Lowe will perform his contractual obligations for the club in a professional and respectful manner.
Declined to comment
In regards to the possibility of a move away from IK Start, the source said that decision will be left in the hands of Lowe, his representatives, and the clubs but declined to comment any further.
He revealed, however, that should any tangible offers be made for Lowe, all stakeholders will be obligated to have a meeting to discuss the player's future.
"Ultimately, Damion is a big part of their team and they are sitting in third position right now and hunting an automatic promotion back into the premier league in Norway so there is a lot of things that they have to consider," the source said. "As long as there is an offer on the table, then all parties will have to sit down and find a solution that is best."
It was speculated that a move to Europe's reputable football nations such as England, Germany or France would be the preferred destination for the stalwart defender.
