A St Catherine businessman and his wife endured a terrifying midnight ordeal after gunmen allegedly stormed their home, tied them up, stole $10 million and used the couple's debit cards to withdraw and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars before fleeing.

The brazen home invasion has prompted a joint investigation by detectives in St Catherine and St Ann.

According to police reports, about 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, the 51-year-old businessman had just returned to his home in Pleasant Farm, St Catherine, when he was allegedly ambushed by two armed men.

The gunmen reportedly forced him at gunpoint into the house, where his wife was also overpowered.

Police said the couple was tied up as the intruders ransacked the house, making off with $10 million.

The robbers also allegedly demanded the couple's debit cards along with their PIN numbers.

After obtaining the information, one of the gunmen reportedly contacted an accomplice by phone, who travelled to St Ann and allegedly used the cards to withdraw cash and carry out transactions totalling more than $500,000.

The two gunmen then fled the house.

The husband and wife later managed to free themselves and alerted the police.

The Linstead Police are leading the investigation with support from investigators in St Ann.
