Kingston man slapped with firearms charges
Damoi Byfield, 21, otherwise called 'Dog Bite', of Alexander Street in Kingston, has been charged with wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition, and using a firearm to commit a felony, following an incident at Water Lane in the parish on January 25.
Reports from the Elletson Road police are that, on the aforementioned date, Byfield and another man allegedly set a house ablaze and were escaping when they pounced upon the complainant. The man, realising that one of the assailants was armed with a firearm, ran. The assailants gave chase and opened gunfire hitting the man several times before fleeing the scene. The police were alerted and the man was transported to the hospital where he was admitted in serious condition.
Byfield was later apprehended by the Half-Way Tree police for a firearm-related offence. He was transferred to the Elletson Road police where he was interviewed and formally charged, based on a confession statement. His court date is being finalised.
