Carpenter held after gunmen shoot at cops
The Westmoreland police have charged 28-year-old Odein Phinn, otherwise called ' Mad Dawg', a carpenter of Cornwall Mountain, Westmoreland, with using a firearm to commit a felony and possession of prohibited weapon.
This is in relation to an incident that occurred in Mount Stewart district on September 16. Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that at 2 a.m., a team of officers was on an operation in the area when they saw Phinn and another man. On seeing the police, the men opened fire on them. The police returned fire, and the men ran. A search of the area was conducted; however, none of the gunmen were seen. Two days later, Phinn was taken into custody during an operation in Spanish Town, St Catherine. He was subsequently charged after he was interviewed in the presence of his attorney.
His court date has not yet been finalised, and his alleged accomplice is currently being sought by the police.
