Jaz Elise finds her place at In.Digg.Nation Collective
Since making her musical debut some three years ago as one member of the female trio that is a part of Protoje's In.Digg.Nation Collective, singer Jaz Elise has been on a steady rise.
Having been signed to internationally renowned record label RCA Records, the entertainer is getting ready to drop her debut EP, The Golden Hour, on March 5.
Unable to contain her excitement about the project, Jaz Elise told THE STAR that she is grateful to have found her place as part of the Collective.
"I don't wah give a cookie-cutter answer because nothing in this music industry is easy, but with In.Digg, me have a home of creatives and dedicated people just like myself who want to see me be the best that I can be as an artiste, and I can say that with confidence," she said. "I know is not a lot of people can really say that; so for me to be in a space like that, outside of my family and friends, it keeps me sane and very motivated."
Her time to shine
Jaz Elise says she has never felt like she had to compete for her time to shine as part of the Collective.
"It's a home of four artistes and a team of people, so shining as an individual can be challenging, but that is just one of the challenges of being an artiste in general. I mean, you want people to see you, you want people to get to know you and understand your individuality. So all if me did independent as I was a year ago, that is always a thing. But now, being around women who are like-minded, and Diggy (Protoje), who is a legend in this game, it is iron sharpening iron. All a we a baay iron 'round here," she said. "My thing is that regardless of what anybody else is doing or where I am, my intention is to always make sure that people understand my story and understand me as an artiste, as an individual. And they are understanding me, they are seeing me."
The artiste also said that her fan base has grown exponentially over the last year.
"Sometimes when I sit back and think to when I knew nobody in music and I just wanted to do this thing, I woulda never even imagine say me woulda even have 100 fans from around the world. And to see that growing every day and people wanting me to put out music, mi affi give thanks say that is actually happening," she said. "It is the wish of every artiste to gain fans and loyal supporters. That is one of the best feelings and if they want to hear me, me wah dem fi hear me, too."
