Spice, the undisputed Queen of the Dancehall, will make her debut performance at UWI Carnival at an event dubbed 'UWI Carnival Ring Road D'After Mas', on Saturday, March 14, at UWI Mona campus in St Andrew.

The event is a new event being executed during the UWI Carnival weekend. Historically, the events on the weekend have been J'ouvert, Ring Road and the beach party.

In addition to Spice performing, there will be a special guest appearance by international renowned soca disc jockey, DJ Puffy from Barbados. The party will be hosted by Trinidadian social media sensation @inhaleme.

"I'm really excited that it's the first time Spice will be at UWI Carnival, and no better way than to have her celebrate with us in this new event," said Chelsea Thomas-Benoit, cultural affairs chairperson at UWI.

She said that there is high interest in the event, especially since Spice and DJ Puffy have been booked.

Thomas-Benoit said that the organisers have put security measures in place for the event. For instance, additional lighting has been secured and more security personnel are being engaged.

Thomas-Benoit said that the aim is to ensure that "patrons, especially our women, during this time will feel extremely safe, and to have clean, safe fun".
