10A wants to impact world like Bob Marley
Twenty-four-year-old Tenee Blackstock is determined to use music to advocate for those unwilling or unable to speak for themselves. The aspiring artiste, who goes by the name 10A, has recorded a powerful song about domestic violence, a track inspired by true events. She hopes the track, ' Domestic Violence', will open the eyes of abusers and victims alike.
"Daddy don't you dear put your hands on mommy
If yuh ever try it again it nah go be a nice scene
You tell me say man nuffi put dem hands pan me cause I'm a woman,
Look how you a pop out mommy weave."
"This year, domestic violence came home to me. I was not the victim, but a close loved one was, and in attempting to help her get away from her abuser and rebuild her life, I was inspired to do this song," 10A told THE STAR.
"There are so many people suffering in silence, and I want to help tell their stories through music. I want them to see that they're never alone, although it may seem that way, and it's always good to seek out some help," she added.
The aspiring artiste said that she wanted to tell the story from a child's perspective, to show how much domestic violence also affects children.
"The way I bring across my message, it should have a bigger impact on society. I want those men who abuse their women to feel the urge to stop, and maybe hearing it from a child's perspective is the way to do that," she said.
Creating Domestic Violence is not 10A's first foray into music. The aspiring entertainer said she began pursuing music at the age of 14. She said that she worked in a call centre for some time, but has decided to dedicate herself to building her career.
"I pursued music because it's what I enjoy. Doing music is perhaps one of the few jobs that I will probably be able to be good at and have a chance at earning some good money. I'm naturally good at it and I have a yearning to go further," she said.
