Instead of basking in the joys of motherhood, Caroline Trigg was overcome with sadness on Mother's Day, yesterday.

Trigg, who is the mother of exotic dancer Coco De Thick (Kyla Ramsay), says she was left heartbroken on the weekend after reading an article published in THE WEEKEND STAR last Friday, where her only daughter claimed she didn't shower her with enough love.

The 43-year-old, who lives in Colorado, USA, said she is devastated by the things her daughter said. She said that although she was not there for Coco De Thick physically, she made sure Kyla was never short of anything.

In a telephone interview with THE STAR, Trigg bore her soul as she recalled making what she described as one of the hardest decisions of her life.

Coco De Thick's mother said the opportunity to better her life and that of her child came when Kyla was 11 years old, and she grabbed it with both hands.

She migrated to the United States leaving Kyla in the care of an aunt and her grandmother.

"I came to America in March 2008, Kyla was 11 or 12 at the time. That was the year she started high school at Happy Grove. Everybody know that Jamaica is rough. A lot of people leave their kids with relatives to come here (to America) to work and try build a better life for themselves and their child. I am not the first to do it. While I'm here, I took care of Kyla, I send money every two weeks, and whenever time she needs something, I was there. I wasn't there physically for her, but I talked to her a lot over the phone," the mother said.

"I agree that it wasn't the best, but I never leave her behind or neglect her," the mother said.

"I didn't abandon her. I was always in her life. I know it's hard when you're apart from somebody and you can't see them physically, you will fall short on some things, but I did try my best as a mother to be there for her."

"I never cut her out my life at no point. If Kyla called my phone at 2 o'clock in the morning, I picked it up. I just wasn't there physical and I think she hates me for that."

In addition to being an exotic dancer, Coco De Thick, 21, sells her used panties online.

Trigg said although she and her daughter have never had the best mother/daughter relationship, she always had high hopes for her daughter. She said she was devastated when she found out her only child was a stripper.

CALL FROM BROTHER

"I have a brother living in Connecticut. He called me one day and asked me if I know what Kyla doing. I tell him yes, because Kyla say she in Barbados working at a restaurant, she's a waitress. My brother say to me: 'No, Kyla nah work as no waitress. A strip Kyla a strip'. Mi say to me bredda, no nothing can't go so. Anyway, me call her and tell her say me hear this news, she curse me out and say how me say me nah send her go back a school and a dis she a go do," Trigg recounted.

"I was disappointed. Me have one child and fi hear say she deh out deh half-naked a shake her bam-bam, it did hurt me. Everybody have high expectation of their child. Me never expect her fi be the next prime minister or anything like dat, but she grow better than that."

Trigg says looking back, there are times when she questions the decision she made to leave Jamaica.

"I think Kyla resent me because I leave Jamaica to find better and she just can't get over it. Kyla had the life kids in Jamaica dream of and if I was there sitting down with her, I couldn't give her the life she deserved. Sometimes I go back and I regret it because I think to myself, if I was there she woulda turn out better but at the same time, if I was there, I couldn't provide for her like I provided for her."
