Confusion over release of players at Mount Pleasant - Officials at St Ann-based outfit tight-lipped
Western Bureau:
There is some amount of confusion into the supposed release of as many as five players from National Premier League outfit Mount Pleasant FA.
At least two club officials have denied 'knowing anything' but a reliable source has told STAR Sports that the players were released sometime ago. Mount Pleasant released a statement on their official Instagram page yesterday afternoon, indicating that five players, including former schoolboy star and Reggae Boy Jourdaine Fletcher, were released by the St Ann-based outfit. However, some four hours after, the statement was withdrawn and amended to state only four players - Joseph Vargas, Kadeem Davis, Xavier Virgo and Jeremy Nelson.
Manager David Galloway, when contacted, said he 'knows nothing' about the club releasing any player.
"I don't know anything about that. Somebody call me and tell me that they see it but I know nothing of that," Galloway said.
"You would have to ask the person who put it up there (Instagram page). I don't even know who put it up there. I don't know where that information came from," he added.
Coach Paul 'Tegat' Davis said he could only confirm the release of Fletcher but he wouldn't be the one to provide an update on the other players.
"I only know about Jourdaine Fletcher, I don't know about five players," Davis said.
When asked if he could provide any clarity on Fletcher's position at the club after his name was initially mentioned among those to be released, Galloway said that he could not speak on the player's position at the club.
"The best person for you to talk to about that is Jourdaine Fletcher. Like I said before, I don't know anything about that," Galloway said.
Fletcher joined Mount Pleasant in January of 2019 from Montego Bay United FC. The forward earned his first senior call-up as a schoolboy in 2015 after leading Cornwall College to the daCosta Cup title.
Mount Pleasant were second on the Red Stripe Premier League table on 53 points, one behind former champions Waterhouse FC, after 29 of the 33 preliminary-round games when the 2019/2020 season was aborted due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Government gave approval recently for the resumption of the Premier League but a kick-off date has not been announced.
