Carryovers highlight Independence Day meet

Thanks to upsets by BIG BUCK (12-1), stable-companion ZEPHYR (15-1) and LITTLE BIG HORN (11-1) on the second half of the Emancipation Day programme at Caymanas Park, both the Pick-9 and twilight Super-6 offer carryovers of $1.3 million each tomorrow.

The first Super-6 will be conducted from race one to six, the late Super-6 from race five to 10 and the Pick-9 from race two to 10. Both the late Super-6 and Pick 9 throws up a five-star banker in the reigning 'Horse of the Year' SEEKING MY DREAM, one of six horses declared for the grade one Prime Minister's Stakes, the ninth race on the holiday programme.

The first Super-6 gets underway with a three-year-old maiden condition race over 1100 metres and is to be contested by eight starters. The winner will more than likely come from a trio comprising BURNING EXIT, to be ridden by leading jockey Omar Walker for champion trainer Wayne DaCosta, VELOCIDAD with in-form apprentice Dane Dawkins and FORMAL JUSTICE (second to PRINCE SAMMO recently) with another in-form apprentice Bebeto Harvey aboard.

With the race providing no real standouts, VELOCIDAD from the stables of Anthony 'Baba' Nunes, gets a glorious opportunity to finally open her account. After finishing second to ZEPHYR over 1000 metres on April 30, she has been somewhat disappointing in four subsequent races, but has caught the eye at exercise recently (1.01.3 from the gates, by 47.1) and with only 50kg, should get it right against lukewarm opposition.

Next on the programme is a three-year-old and up overnight allowance race again over 1100 metres to be contested by seven starters, including last Saturday's disqualified winner over 1500m SHINING LIGHT, who carries a mere 50.0kg with 3.0kg claiming apprentice Hakeem Pottinger again in the saddle.

The 4-y-o colt from the stables of Gary Griffiths will report even fitter for this race and now venturing over his pet trip, having won twice over the distance earlier this season, should bring fitness into play and stave off the down in class TRADITIONAL PRINCE, who has beaten better in the not too distant past.

The third race over the round five course for three-year-olds promises to be a hotly contested affair among the eight starters, but the standouts are definitely CHACE THE GREAT (Wesley Henry up) and DREAMLINER (Omar Walker), the two most accomplished in the field.

The Dwight Chen-trained CHACE THE GREAT proved his mettle by slamming subsequent derby winner ORPHEUS in the Prince Consort Stakes over 1400 metres on March 19, but broke down in his last race, the Lotto Classic in May. He has worked well, however, and even with the DaCosta-trained DREAMLINER (working well) looking dangerous over this trip, is given the edge.
