Soldier shot in ankle
Commander for the St Andrew South Police Division, Kirk Ricketts, confirmed on Thursday that a member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) was shot in the region of his ankle while on duty.
It is believed that he was shot after a service weapon discharged in a tent housing JDF personnel along Mahoe Drive in the parish. Lieutenant Oneika Samms, who spoke on behalf of the JDF, confirmed that one of their service men was shot, but was unable to provide details about what transpired.
A resident of Mahoe Drive, which is in Kingston 11, said when she was awakened by an almost deafening explosion early Thursday morning, she instantly ran to her child's room to check on the infant. Breathing a huge sigh of relief, she said she peaked through her window and realised that the explosion came from inside the tent housing the security forces. A few minutes later she said the police arrived on the scene and the injured army man was transported to hospital.
"Mi did fraid suh mi never go out there. Mi happy anyone never die still," she said.
