Dancehall Queen Nickeisha moving to music
Dancehall Queen Nickeisha rose to prominence after earning the St Catherine Dancehall Queen title in 2013.
She, however, began to make her transition to recording artiste back in 2017 alongside her then lover, Marvi Di Beast. The duo released the tracks Clean and Fresh and F**k Once Again before parting ways shortly after. Nickeisha also had a highly successful single with dancehall veteran KipRich. But fast-forward four years later and the rebranded Queen Nikki is working towards her dream of a solo career.
"I am done with dancing as a career, but will still shake a leg when I hear music because dancing is a part of me. But right now, I am focusing on my music 100 per cent. My plan for 2021 is to push my music career out there even more, so the people can know me as an artiste and not just DHQ Nickeisha," she told THE WEEKEND STAR. "I don't feel any pressure trying to get my name established in this industry because I know I am very talented, and once I put my mind to something, I am going to do it."
Queen Nikki lauded the team at Boysie Records, who are pushing her career. They steered the careers of dancehall favourites Intence and IWaata and are also endorsing Sanka Jetlife, with whom Queen Nikki collaborated on the single Best We Eva Feel, which garnered more than one million YouTube views.
"My new single, Nuh Dog Ears, is out now and doing well, and I recently posted a preview of another song. It name Five Questions and it a gwaan good. Di people dem can't wait fi hear di things dem, and mi can't wait fi drop it," she said.
Queen Nikki said she is overwhelmed to see the number of women currently claiming their success in the industry.
"They are doing well, and their work is finally being recognised not only locally, but internationally as well, and that's a very good look," she said. "My aim now is to be among them, because there is room for a lot more artiste in the industry, and I am glad for that space as well. The time has come for women to dominate the industry. There are many female artistes I would want to collab with and help make di thing stronger, but I want to keep that anonymous for now."
