Harry Hype's son killed on his late mother's birthday

February 04, 2020

February 3 is a date dancehall selector Harry Hype will never forget. It was on that date that the popular entertainment personality's late mother was born. And, yesterday, as he was remembering his mother, to whom he was reportedly very close, he received news of the death of his son Kevaughn McKenzie.

A gas station attendant, 19-year-old McKenzie was gunned down at his workplace on Constant Spring Road in St Andrew about 12:45 p.m. by one of two men who rode up on a motorcycle, got off, and shot him while he was dispensing gas.

The shooter then returned to the motorcycle and both men rode off.
Harry Hype works alongside Boom Boom, organiser of the popular Boom Sundays, and they have both toasted at many street dances across Jamaica, including Uptown Mondays, Boasy Tuesdays and Bounty Sundays.

When THE STAR contacted Boom Boom, he said he was unable to give a comment.
Gutty Bling from Claims Records, who does bookings for both selectors, said he was hearing about the incident for the first time, then asked that Harry Hype's privacy be respected.

As pictures of the crime scene continue to be circulated on social media, the police are doing their investigations.

An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that February 3 was the date of death of Harry Hype's mother.
