Kartel take lead on ‘Upfull’ rhythm
Record producer Garfield 'Still Yet' Francis says he's optimistic about his latest project, the 'Upfull' rhythm.
He's hoping that the beat, led by Vybz Kartel, will create a buzz on the streets of Jamaica.
Francis, who hails from Waterford, Portmore, St Catherine, says that he has been working with a mix of young and established artistes lately. In addition to Vybz Kartel, he has managed to secure songs from Sikka Rhymes, Shawn Storm and Gaza Tussant.
"I come to set the pace. It's quite competitive on the streets and I'm working towards being on top, and you have to bring it 100 per cent when that is your goal," he said.
"Music is everything to me and when I hear Vybz Kartel on a production for me, that shows that I'm growing as a producer, and I'm so very grateful for that. I want this body of work to make an impact."
In his bid to reach all demographics in dancehall, including the new age (trap) audience, the producer dabbled with different genres on the project.
"The type of sounds I dabble with makes my music palatable to the international market. My music must be able to be played at a huge festival overseas, and people must be jumping because of that unique energy," he said.
"I have had some amount of chart success already, but we still have a far way to go and many more levels to conquer. So I just wanna stay focused, grateful and humble."
