Recording artiste Jahzi Lee, is hoping 2020 will be his breakout year in music. According to the artiste, 2019 was fruitful for new artistes and he sees the trend continuing, especially as the young talent continue to find innovative ways to grab the public's attention.

"The powers that be for a long time had a hand in holding back fresh talent. However, the new crop of artistes have found new ways to market themselves and that has contributed to the rise of new acts. I am looking to join that success story this year," he said.

"That's the main focus this year for me and my team. We want to get people's attention and use it to our advantage."

The aspiring artiste said that in light of the recent spike in murders, especially as it relates to gender-based killings, he hopes to make that kind of impact with his latest track. The song, titled Mek Mi Live, is an impassioned plea to murderers to allow people to enjoy their lives.

"The song was composed to speak to the minds of those who don't appreciate balance, the murderers. It's saying my life for is not for you to take, therefore 'low mi mek mi live'.

"If everywhere bought into that phrase, we would not see any murders, because it would mean we have bought into the concept of respecting life," Jahzi Lee said.

The record was produced by Shanevilla Records, Rude Team and Live MB Music. So far, it has been featured on BBC's 1Xtra show with Seani B.
