Kartel to release project dedicated to ‘Shorty’

December 13, 2019

Incarcerated dancehall artiste Vybz Kartel is getting ready to release his next body of work.

The 10-track compilation is officially set to drop on January 10, 2020, but is already available for pre-order on iTunes.

The project is said to be dedicated to his common-law wife, Tanesha 'Shorty' Johnson.

A year after Kartel's cousin Sikka Rymes confirmed that the two were no longer together, the compilation seems to be a sign of the opposite.

Titled To Tanesha, the project is listed under the hip-hop/rap category on the digital streaming platform, and features the track Then You & Me.

The latter was released back in October and chronicles the turmoils of a relationship.

When news that this latest body of work is dedicated to Johnson broke on several blog sites, it sent fans into a frenzy.

Dubbing the couple 'Jamaica's Jay-Z and Beyonce', some users felt it was high time Kartel showed appreciation to Johnson through music.

"Overdue! This woman been there through it all," one user commented on Instagram.

"Special place inna di G heart fi Tanesha eno," another posted.

The project was produced by Johnson's label, Short Boss Muzik, and Kartel's label, Vybz Kartel Muzik.

The compilation also features collaborations with Sikka Rymes, Jesse Royal, Jodi Couture and Jada Kingdom.
