Dancehall artiste Flyght says he is eyeing the next level in his career after changing his name from Bluugo.

The entertainer, who won the Magnum King of Dancehall title back in 2017, told THE STAR earlier this year that the time had come for him to reinvent himself, starting with a change in his stage name. At the time, he said confusion with him and Rasta Party artiste Bugle was one of the key reasons for the change.

But he also said that with his career poised to take off, he needed to change his name to something that would suit the next step in his career.

"I chose Flyght because when you kinda step back, yuh get a better view of everything. Is like yuh have the floor and now you seeing the floor from a higher level because you've elevated yourself. I have a bird's-eye view over all things now, and I'm going to use it to my advantage," he said.

"When you talk about Flyght, that's what it is, a higher level. When me say it to people, dem say it make sense. Change is always a good thing. Variety a di spice a life. Is a different name now, so yuh a go get different variety in the music".

"I know that when I change my name, it don't mean all a di fame and everything gone. It is still me. It comes down to the artiste. I am more resolute, more of a flexible worker. A your name change, not your talent. Besides, a you di people dem love, dem nuh love yuh name," he said.

The entertainer said that since the name change, people are showing a lot more interest in him.

"It still kinda difficult because people still refer to me as Bluugo, because dat was the day-one name, and some a dem nuh really kick in with the Flyght as yet. But it is getting there. Since the name has been changed to Flyght, it has been very different. The name stands out. I have been more out there. There has been more clarity. Everything nuh happen overnight. I know that it was going to be a challenge, and me deh yah fi deal wid and conquer all challenges," he said.

Flyght has so far released one song, 10z, under his new moniker.

"That song gave me a lot of interviews, a lot of exposure. Now, me also have a song name Bruk Weh. It a gwaan wid a bag a things as it start off. Right now, it fresh. It nuh really soak in yet, but the reaction weh me a get from it already, it nuh normal," he said.
